Lakers began this year’s Spirit Week festivities with the second annual Mr.West Bloomfield Pageant, hosted by WBHS Student Leadership. On Monday night, September 19, twelve brave junior and senior guys gave the performance of their lives onstage to a panel of judges and an audience of frenzied teenaged girls.

The panel of four judges was composed of teachers Mr. Smith, Mrs. Danton, Mrs. Zanotti, and Ms. Firosz. Together they watched as the boys competed in several pageant activities such as a formal wear catwalk, talent show, and lip sync battle.

Competitors included Ronnie Davis, Nickon Katabai, Nick O’Shea, Rishabh Parekh, Collin Pintamo, and Nick Seidel from the junior group. Justin Christopher-Moody, Krish Deodhar, Zay Douglas, Daniel Kassab, Alex Weiss, and Garrett Winn, all competed in the senior group. However in the end, only one could be crowned the winner.

Student Leadership members have worked tirelessly for months to put this event together for WBHS students. “We put a lot of work in over the summer and we came in a lot of times after school and we worked on it during the Leadership class to work hard and to make sure this event worked out,” said leadership students Jocelyn Deutch, senior, Jordyn Ingber, junior, and Sydney Bruce, junior, respectively.

Before the pageant, the backstage buzzing with excitement. Pageant contestants were eager to compete and were mostly confident in their ability to win. “I just feel like we’re at a great school with faculty and students, and they would enjoy seeing a great performance from the boys. We’re gonna go crazy out here, give a show, and see what happens,” said junior Collin Pintamo, before the show began.

In the end, audience members were able to vote for their favorite contestants through a texting poll. The 12 boys were then narrowed down to one junior and one senior finalist, Ronnie Davis and Justin Christopher-Moody. Finally, the judges chose junior Ronnie Davis to win the title.

“I want to thank my mom, my dad, and everyone who supported me in being Mr. WB. And I thank all the contestants for making this an enjoyable experience,” said Ronnie Davis after his win.

“He came on stage with full energy and he always kept it exciting throughout every round. Ronnie’s got a big personality, and it showed tonight,” the pageant judges said. 
On the role of Mr. WB in WBHS the community, Varsity Football captain and senior Garrett Winn said it best: “He’s married to the school.”
