WBHS Cheer Team Makes History

Highest Score of All Time

On Saturday, February 11th, the West Bloomfield High School cheer team made history, scoring the highest they ever have and placing third in their invitational competition.

The team scored 760 points in three rounds, the best they’ve ever done. In the first round they scored 228.9 points with solid execution in all aspects. The second round was almost as good as the first with a score of 215.38. Round three was their best, with a staggering score of 316.5 points. This was an overall outstanding performance by the WBHS competitive cheer team, undoubtedly their best all season. It is worth noting that this was not just the highest score this season, but EVER in WBHS competitive cheer history.

Alyssa Littlejohn, a junior on the cheer team who has cheered since seventh grade, commented on the teams’ success saying, “It feels great getting such a high score even though we didn’t place first. We focused on ourselves this week and it really showed at the competition Saturday. I think this will make us push ourselves even more in this final week for districts so we can move on to regionals for the first time!” When asked about what contributed to this success, she responded, “We came into the competition this Saturday after a pretty upsetting loss at leagues and I think that is what made us work that much harder last week and led to our success at the competition.”

The cheer squad has been working hard and improving all season long, and with the season winding down they look to go out with a bang. This Saturday is a district competition at Parker Middle School at 10 am. If the Lakers place within the top four spots, they will continue on to regionals. Good luck Lakers!
