Girls Varsity Soccer Takes Big Win Against Walled Lake Central

Ryan Horwitz and Deepa Jha

The Girls Varsity soccer team has had a fair season and have had a solid post season run thus far. The Lakers won their most recent match against Walled Lake Central with a double overtime 3-2 victory.

After a quiet first half of play, the Lakers were down one. They charged themselves up for an action packed second half and senior Dana Suchara aided the first goal to tie the game up 1-1. Chloe Barnthouse, a freshman on the team, would help the Lakers take the lead by scoring the second goal for a 2-1 advantage. After WLC scored on a penalty kick, the game remained tied and proceeded into overtime. The game was so intensely close in fact that a double overtime was necessary. Jasmine Hollins, a senior, made a herculean effort to run down field and claim possession and assisted Barnthouse for the game winning goal. This was a tremendous accomplishment, since it has been 24 years since the Lakers last district finals. Their next game will be held at tonight Milford High School at 6 pm and will play Walled Lake Northern . Make sure to come out and support the Lakers and propel them to an OAA championship. Go Lakers!
