As football season comes to a close, WBHS’ support for those who need help is still going strong. On Friday, October 20, West Bloomfield High School is having their last regular season football game. Along with enjoying the last game, students can also enjoy free admission with the purchase of an Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation shirt.

          The shirts cost $10 and profits will go to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF). The organization works towards raising awareness finding cures for all childhood cancers. In addition to this, ALSF empowers those affected by childhood cancer and encourages others to stand up and help make a difference against it.

          ALSF was founded by Alexandra “Alex” Scott. She was diagnosed with childhood cancer right before her fourth birthday. When she was diagnosed in 2000, Alex told her parents that she wanted to start a lemonade stand and give her profits to the doctors to help find a cure. That year, she was able to raise $2,000 and kept on doing her lemonade stand every year. Alex tragically passed away when she was eight years old. While bravely fighting her own battles, she raised more than $1 million to help end childhood cancer.

          The foundation was created by her parents and has helped give more than $150 million. The money funded more than 800 cutting edge projects, created a travel program for families and children that are receiving treatment, and developed resources to help people everywhere that are affected by childhood cancer.

          Be sure to order one of the shirts! They are sold during lunches at a table right in front of Laker Landing. They will be given out during 5th hour when the shirts arrive. Enjoy the football game!
