New art therapy class offered to WBHS students

West Bloomfield High School is opening up its doors to help students cope with stress in a fun way. There is now a new class that offers art therapy as a way to practice mindfulness and use art to destress. The first class will take place on Monday December 4 after school from 2:15-3:15, and will cost $5.00 to participate in.  This class, taught by Art Therapist Taylor Beardsall, is a chance to meet new friends and get in touch with yourself through creative art pieces. Along with designing art, this class offers anxiety reducing techniques such as meditation and projects geared towards self esteem and positive thinking.

Talking to Associate Principal Mrs. Ashleigh Larkin, the founder of this class, she spoke about her excitement for the Art Therapy class. “It’s a different way to offer students something to help them focus on mindfulness and positive thinking” said Larkin. This new program offers great opportunity for students to get away from the pressure of high school and relax in a calm and open environment. This class is open to any and all students who want to join, you don’t have to be an artist, you just have to be willing to relax and have fun.  If you are interested in this class, you can sign up in the counseling office or see Mrs. Larkin for more details.
