Lakers Look To Bounce Back

WEST BLOOMFIELD- Following a prolific playoff run in the 2016-2017 season that ended in a disappointing loss in the state semifinal to the eventual state champion of Clarkston, the Boy’s Basketball team looks to reload rather than rebuild within the 2017-2018 campaign.

The Lakers graduated a few team cornerstones in Kevin McAdoo (Eastern Michigan) and Tyler Davis (Macomb College), and will be without the familiar faces of Tre Mosley and Javon Foster this season. However, a flurry of transfers are sure to bolster the team’s efforts as Robert Johnson (Jr., Northville), AJ Abbott (Sr., Northville), Jalen Kelso (Sr., Walled Lake Northern), and Donovan Moore (Jr., Illinois) will provide the Lakers with exceptional depth and talent at the guard position, supplementing senior guard Tre Harvey, the squad’s standout 3-point marksman.

Some key returning players include seniors Chris Oviasu, James Faulkner, and Zach Isenberg, along with a talented underclassmen group headed by Shamar Mathew, Chase Glover, and Jake Lansaw.

The revamped Lakers look to repeat their postseason success this season, and with the aforementioned transfers, that may be likely. MIPrepZone’s Scott Burnstein regarded three Lakers as top 30 players in Oakland County, with Moore coming in at number 6, Harvey at 19, and Kelso at 20. As a team, The Detroit News ranked West Bloomfield as the number 17 squad in the state, a mark lower than the team finished last season, but certainly a rallying point as the year begins.

The Lakers will open their season on Friday, December 8th at 8:30 pm, teeing off against Detroit Henry Ford Academy as part of the annual Oakland Invite at North Farmington High School.
