The Health Sciences Club (HOSA) had an event filled weekend at the state competition. The students who qualified went to the Grand Amway Plaza in Grand Rapids, where the competition was held. The students left for the event before school started last Thursday. They spent the weekend at the Plaza, leaving Sunday morning.

HOSA is a national competition that prepares students who are looking to go into the health sciences. There are 120 schools that participate along with over 206,000 members.

The students who made it to states, first had to go to regionals. Having to score in the top 10 of their event, it was hard to make it to states.

”The experience was extremely fun since I got to spend time exploring Grand Rapids,” said Simran Singh. Singh was in the Behavioral Health event.

Students had to be at least third in their event to make it to the international stage of the competition. This will be held in Dallas, Texas from June 27 to June 30. No students from West Bloomfield High School made it to the international competition.

Although it was a bleak result for most students, many found the experience to be useful. “The HOSA state conference was a great experience because we were able to interact with people from other schools with different opinions, and overall the weekend was a good balance between competition and leisure” said Dhiya Krupashankar, part of one of the teams that made it to states. Her, along with three other group members, came fourth in their event, coming close to making it to the international competition.

Even though no West Bloomfield students made it to the international stage of the competition, HOSA states was a great experience for the students who attended.
