WBHS Bands Dominate at State Competition

The West Bloomfield Bands took their talents to Saginaw for the MCGC State Finals on Saturday, April 7 and Sunday, April 8, performing outstandingly and placing within the top five of four events.

The teams, including Percussion, Varsity and JV Winter Guard, and Winter Winds, are led by directors Chris Vilag, Mark Istratie, Sam Silverman, and Chad Mielens. Each team posted incredible scores in their respective events, leading West Bloomfield to a successful weekend.

The Winter Winds team consisting of middle school students participated in the Regional A class, and received a Gold medal for their 1st place finish with a score of 82.175. West Bloomfield Percussion added on a Silver medal for 2nd place while competing in the Scholastic A class against 10 other teams. Also in the Scholastic A class, the Varsity and JV Winter Guard teams finished in 5th and 4th place, respectively, with the Varsity group competing against 10 other squads and the JV facing off against 21 other teams.

The bands will look to translate these successes into a slate of great performances over the next month with the Spring Swing coming up on May 4 at 6 pm, the Jazz Band at the Hard Rock Cafe on Sunday, May 20, and the WBHS Finale Concert on Thursday, May 24 from 7 to 9 pm at the high school.

The marching band has also opened registration for the 2018 season and will be holding a social event on Tuesday, April 24 with the time and location to be decided, as well as a Marching Band Reveal Night and Parent Meeting on Tuesday, May 1 at 7 pm in the WBHS iCenter.
