WBHS Takes on Hit Musical, Hairspray
April 24, 2018
What’s the one thing we all want to do in class? Watch a movie. In choir class, it seemed like every time we saw a movie, it was always “Hairspray.” Who can blame them? It’s an iconic musical. Well, West Bloomfield High School is taking on the musical from April 26 to April 28. The cast has been looking forward to the show and wants to show off all of their hard work.
“I think the audience will really enjoy the music, there’s a lot of fun dancing, and it’s especially a really great story. A lot of themes are still relevant today. It’s just a really fun show, it’s super funny, we are all still laughing at every rehearsal. I think it’s going to be a very fun show and everyone is going to love it.” commented Shelby Smith, who plays Tracy Turnblad in the musical.
“Hairspray” follows Tracy Turnblad, a Baltimore teenager whose sole dream is to dance on a popular TV show during the 1960s. She dances her way to her dream and helps to integrate the show, so others can have the same opportunities.
In the world we live in today, we could all learn something from Tracy. She struggles to help her co-cast achieve their own spotlight, even if it means hers is taken away. She even does it all without messing up her hair.
The first show will be April 26 at 7:30 p.m. On the following day, another show will be at 7:30. On the 28th, there’ll be 2 shows, one at 2:00 p.m., and 7:30 p.m. Get your tickets online at www.showtix4u.com. Be sure to get your hair done, and come see the iconic play at West Bloomfield High School!
