WEST BLOOMFIELD- With the spring slate of sports finally upon us, West Bloomfield soccer is back in action, and the Lady Lakers have gotten off to a hot start against non-conference opponents while readying for the fierce competition of the OAA White division. The team is 4-2-1 with their only losses coming from Troy Athens and Groves, with a lone tie against Farmington High School.

The squad boasts some signature victories against Warren Woods-Tower and Ferndale High School, winning 7-0 and 8-0, respectively. However the team’s most impressive win of the young season came against a previously undefeated Clawson Trojans (5-1) on Monday night, handing them their first loss of the year.

The Lakers wasted no time in establishing their presence early on, scoring within the first 6 minutes of the game by way of a slashing goal netted by senior Emily Falkowski and assisted by sophomore Chloe Barnthouse. Barnthouse had a dominant game, adding on two goals scored to the aforementioned assist.

Joining in on the scoring barrage were sophomores Marisa Silver and Lara Mathias, with a goal apiece, while sophomore Mikayla Duncan and junior Maya Madi tacked on a single assist, with sophomore Holly Daugard contributing two assists. The Lakers went on to win 5-1 in a convincing fashion, asserting themselves as a team to watch in the OAA white conference.

After a 7-7-3 campaign last season, the Lakers look poised for an even better record and a deeper run in the playoffs. Standing in their way, however, are a host of great teams in the conference. Some marquee matchups to look forward to come against Clarkston on May 1, Berkley on May 11, and cross-town rival Bloomfield Hills on May 15.

The team’s next tilt, however, comes against a formidable Avondale team on Thursday, April 26 at 7 pm at Avondale High School. Come out and support your Lakers!
