WEST BLOOMFIELD- Not 1, not 2, but 3 overtime periods leave West Bloomfield fans shaking on senior night.

The Lakers looked to turn things around after a bitter 15-1 loss to Davison High School at home by dominating a struggling Avondale team.

The Lakers have been on and off throughout the season, lacking on an ability to truly push momentum from game to game. Just the night before the Davison battle, the Lakers dominated Brandon High School 19-6. Breakout games such as the aforementioned matchup prove that the Lakers have an offense capable of considerable damage.

The West Bloomfield Lakers quickly got to work on Avondale taking an early lead of 3-1 in the first quarter. This small lead resulted in being the largest lead of the game. Avondale quickly fought back and remained neck and neck with the Lakers.

After much back and forth, at the end of regulation, the Lakers and Yellowjackets were final at 10-10. The match continued to 4 minute sudden death overtime quarters.

In overtime, the Lakers greatly struggled with penalty trouble as tensions were on the rise and emotions were flaring.

Finally, in the third overtime period, an Avondale midfielder found an opening and let a rip from 15 yards out to end the game. Had the Lakers not been a man short for the last, crucial possession, the outcome may have differed.

Thursday also marked a ceremonial day for the Lakers’ Seniors. WBHS commemorated 4 lacrosse seniors graduating:

Brandon Keil: Midfield, #18, 4 years, Grand Valley State University
