The biennial Household Hazardous waste event was held on Saturday September 29th from 9 to 2. The residents of West Bloomfield were invited to recycle or dispose of all hazardous materials such as light bulbs, paint, gasoline, propane tanks, batteries, fire extinguishers, and more. Paper shredding was also available. The papers are shred right away and are completely confidential and secure.

Another favored service going on was Saint Vincent de Paul donations. Many people brought gently used or new clothing to donate. West bloomfield township supervisor, Steven Kaplan says, “Hazardous day is where the public is invited at no cost to drop off hazardous materials like electronics. We also offer shredding services at no fee and also residents can donate clothings to charities. West bloomfield is a very green environment and sensitive area and this way we are avoiding hazardous material ending up in landfills.” When asked why this green event occurs, Kaplan says, “There is a public demand in West Bloomfield, as indicated, consists of many environmentalists, who want to keep the environment clean, who want the area safer for the next generation, and the generation after that. It is something we offer but it is something our residents demand.”

The next Household Hazardous Waste event will be held on the fourth saturday of April. All the specialties will again be offered behind the town hall building. West Bloomfield is on the right road to a cleaner and greener environment!
