Every season for every sport is different. Although this season did not go as the Boys’ Varsity Tennis Team hoped, they still gave it their all.

“There were some tough schools out there that we played well against. We had some great wins and some well fought losses,” junior Rupin Balabhadra said. This was his second year on the varsity. “I play tennis because it’s just a good sport. It’s really fun, it’s competitive, and it makes you think a little. It can be challenging at times,” Balabhadra said.

“I would give it [the season] a five out of a ten because I switched partners and maybe I shouldn’t have done it because I didn’t finish the season the way I wanted to,” junior Gape Villa said. This is Villa’s third year on varsity. “I grew up playing tennis and I just enjoy it,” Villa said.

The Varsity Tennis Team was led by three seniors, Daniel Wu, Max Samdberg, and Jason Schwartz. Wu’s and Schwartz’s  record for the season was 9-15.

Wu is playing on varsity for the third time. “I play tennis because I’ve played since the third grade and it’s always been a part of me. I play with my family and I wanted to play for the school team,” Wu said.

For seniors, Wu, Samdberg, Schwartz, Jake Kroll, and Connor Schram,  this was a final season, and it is time to say goodbye to high school tennis.

“I’m going to miss most the guys on the team that I’ve known since middle school and before since we’ve always been playing together,” Daniel Wu said.

For other Laker tennis players, Kevin Rothstein, Daniel Eilander, Jonathan Nirenberg, Villa, Alec Sandberg, Max Singer, David Filuhuski, Josh Jankelovitz, and  Balabharda, it is just one set lost in the long match ahead.
