Over the weekend, West Bloomfield High School’s MIFA company competed virtually in the Regional MIFA Competition. The company performed their one act show The Lottery. In this show, a local town struggles with holding their annual lottery over Zoom. 

“I was excited for everyone to see the show we had created together; it’s something we’ve never done before,” stated Senior Set Design Head Peyton Capalungan. 

WBHS MIFA recorded their performance on Thursday, February 4th. The video was then submitted to the MIFA competition judges. The judges viewed the 45 minute recording on Saturday, February 6th and documented their critiques. Judges then created videos explaining their scoring for the one act show. 

“We were super nervous to hear back from the judges with our score… It’s a whole new way we’re trying to perform and it’s nerve wrecking not knowing how it will be received,” Senior Costume Head Chloe Bowyer commented. 

The score received from the judges at Regionals determines whether the group can advance to the MIFA State Competition. WB’s MIFA Company made it to the State Competition for the past two years and were hoping to make it again. 

Unfortunately, the MIFA Company did not receive the necessary points to compete at the State level. 

“Obviously we are disappointed to hear that we didn’t make it to States, but we do know that we put on one of the best shows given the circumstances. I am extremely proud to see what we were able to accomplish and I can’t wait to put on a great show next year,” Junior Sound Designer Kendall Folwer reflects. 

Congratulations to Ife Martin and Cameron Patterson for receiving the Superior Award in acting this year. In addition, congratulations to Melodie Knappe for receiving Excellence in Student Directing. To Kendall Fowler and the rest of the cast, congratulations on being awarded Excellence in Sound Execution.
