It may be getting colder outside, but the grind never stops for the girls of the WB Lacrosse team! On January 22nd, pre-season conditioning starts at the Doherty Elementary school gym from 6:30-8:00 PM.
Julia Amato, a junior and player on the girls lacrosse team explains why she loves lacrosse, “I love playing lacrosse, because it is such a complex game that goes as far as you allow it to go for you. Once you cover the basics of the game, you could continue to branch off and master other skills and personalize your technique.”
Amato added, “I think even people who have never tried it before should join lacrosse. It is the best workout of your life while still having that competitive and team bonding side of it. You get to beat personal records and find what positions work best for you.”
Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the midwest and allows for so many colleges to offer scholarships to prospective players. Another player on the team and junior Carson Semanson explained how it is so easy to make connections from joining the team. “Throughout the season you are always meeting new team members and you spend almost every day with them for around 2 hours. You get to make new friends but also become closer friends with people you already know. We also have team bonding which is overall such a fun experience!”
There will also be the pre-season parent meeting on February 5th at Doherty starting at 6:30. This is for returning parents and new prospective player parents. The coaches will go over important season information and what is needed for parental support to have a great season.
Semanson explains what she enjoys out of lacrosse, “I think what I enjoy the most out of playing lacrosse is the fact that you never get bored. Your feet are always moving and you constantly have fun with your team. You’re never just standing around.”
Finally, in late February, there will be an informational meeting for parents if their kids weren’t able to attend any of the pre-season meetings. If lacrosse sounds interesting to you, contact [email protected] and get hyped for the start of the season, March 10th.
Amato said,“Lacrosse accomplishes multiple health goals at once, such as working out, socializing, spending time outdoors and taking a break from the stress of academics and technology. It is truly such an amazing and versatile sport!”
