One pop culture moment in particular has been seen by everyone lately and involves the country/pop star, Morgan Wallen. 

Wallen sang some of his popular songs and was one of the hosts for an SNL episode where something went down at the final goodbye portion of the show. Instead of talking with his co-hosts or the cast, he didn’t even say his line, he just walked right off the stage in the middle of the closing, emotional part.

A little bit after the show, Wallen posted a photo to his Instagram on a jet with the caption, ‘Get me to God’s country’

When asked about how much she knew about this whole situation, Freshman, Jiannica Macalino said, “Haha oh my god I saw it on Tiktok! He just rudely walked off and didn’t say anything. It was really weird. I don’t really care about SNL but that’s not nice to do.”

Eventually, Wallen started selling merch with the phrase ‘Get me to God’s country’ plastered on it and has since announced his tour. One could assume maybe this was all meant to go viral to promote his tour? 

“I feel like it has to be promo for the merch and tour because that’s just such a weird and random thing to do out of nowhere. You would have to be crazy to just walk off stage into the audience at SNL.” Junior, Sarah Holdsworth stated.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Kenan Thompson also took issue with Wallen’s Instagram Story. ‘The ‘God’s country’ of it all is strange because it’s like, what are you trying to say?” he said. “Are you trying to say that we are not in God’s country? We’re not all in God’s country? We’re not all under God’s umbrella? That’s not necessarily my favorite.’

“Yeah it’s definitely weird.” Junior, Sophia Zholob said. “I didn’t get it at first like what does he mean by god’s country? Is NYC not religious enough for him?”

“It’s pretty rude but at the same time, the cast didn’t react very strongly either. They didn’t care that much and probably just wanted to go home,” she added.

The cast’s calm reaction to Wallen’s weird moment might suggest they weren’t too concerned, but his past behavior had already made him a controversial figure. One incident was when he got in trouble for partying during the pandemic and not wearing a mask.

Macalino shared, “Yeah, I heard that he had gotten in trouble before being caught partying, not wearing a mask, and spreading germs during Covid. I think he was supposed to host a show then but it got cancelled.”

Social media has become very niche and split up over the last few years with these apps getting so big. There hasn’t been a big weird event that people all agreed on in a while and this was definitely that. Not just teens have heard of this too! 

Holdsworth said, ”I was talking to my sister who’s 28 and she told me all of her friends have been talking about it. It’s just so weird and mysterious and we want to know why. I guess I’ll have to keep wondering.”
