The S.I.S club, also known as Sisters in Society is a safe place for young women to express themselves freely with no judgement. Many girls from 9th to 12th grade join this club to build friendships with other young women, learn about self love and confidence, and create a sense of community and sisterhood throughout the high school. According to many students, S.I.S is one of the most talked about, popular, and fun clubs to join at the school. Meetings are held every two weeks throughout the school year. So, every girl has an opportunity to make it to a S.I.S meeting.
Sponsored by Mrs.Sharpe, girls all over were invited to join S.I.S for their very first meeting of the 2025-2026 school year, featuring brand new leaders of the club! The first S.I.S meeting was in room 601 on October 1. Senior, Jadore Wells is president of S.I.S along with her two co-presidents Maddalyn Brown and Amayah Brown who are seniors as well. The club encourages members to share their own personal experiences, participate in fun activities, and give back to their communities. The club helps young women grow confidence in themselves and their passions as it creates a positive environment for members.
Brown’s role as co-president is to help host and plan events and meetings for S.I.S. Brown says the leaders are still unsure about what the topic will be for the first meeting.
“As of right now we don’t really have a set plan for the meeting, but it would most likely be an introduction,” stated Brown.
A specific topic hasn’t been chosen yet, but the leaders are open to hearing suggestions from members. They hope to choose topics that focus on self love, college, and building strong relationships.
This is what makes the club inviting because every member contributes to the club and makes it authentic. As a 10th grader, Brown became a member of the S.I.S club and at the end of last school year is when she became co-president of the club. This school year will be her first complete year running the club.
Brown stated, “S.I.S means a lot to me because it helped me gain a lot of friends, especially since when I first joined, I didn’t have as many.”
Many S.I.S members share similar experiences. They explain that the club has given them a sense of belonging and support from other girls. For new or shy students, S.I.S provides an opportunity to meet wonderful young women, get involved and have a safe space at the school. The three seniors also plan on incorporating fundraisers to donate to Domestic Violence shelters as a way to give back to the community.
S.I.S. will have their next meeting on Wednesday, October 22.
