The Faith in Action club at the high school welcomes with open arms any and all students, no matter the grade or denomination. A great way to get a stronger relationship with God is with others who share your faith, and this helps to make time for Jesus.
Sponsor Emily Mason emphasizes the importance of uniting as believers in Christ,
“The diversity in our group is incredible to me because people are really generally divided by denomination, and our goal the entire time has been to unite as Christians not as a denomination.”
A typical meeting with Faith in Action consists of reading a devotional, scripture and prayer. Students and sponsors have discussions, and sometimes everyone is really comfortable with speaking and other times not so much.
Mason said if students are nervous about showing up, “They’re always welcome, they don’t have to say anything, they can sit and listen. After school is coming soon, so I know a lot of kids said they’d be willing to come if it was after school.”
Mrs. Mason has been talking with students to figure out what will encourage more students to attend, and she says,
“I have had a few students say we need posters, so let them know posters are coming soon around the school. Because that was the number one thing I’ve heard is ‘I didn’t know this was a thing.’”
Students are going to start seeing posters around the school.
Draquel Jude, a student on the board describes how these before-school meetings make his day better,
“It sets the tone for the rest of the day , it gets you in the right mindset, it’s a helpful reminder at school that I should be different, like to set myself apart from my peers.”
If students are unsure whether this would be a good fit for them, Jude wants you to know how much he has learned by coming to the meetings and speaking with other believers.
“It is great to see how many different people are believers just as you are, and you never know what you can learn from someone else, I’ve learned a lot from others.”
Everyone in Faith in Action knows there are sometimes obstacles or nerves stopping people from making it to the club, but on behalf of Faith in action, Jude says,
“Five minutes is better than nothing, if you’re late to school and you’re like I shouldn’t go, come check it out, we always end in prayer, it’s gonna get prayer over your day, even if you’re there for two minutes you’ll still come out with something.”
