On Thursday, August 29th, West Bloomfield’s Junior Varsity football team took down Jackson High School, 42-30.

West Bloomfield took control of the game early, with a fumble recovery less than two minutes into the game that led to a touchdown. The game was quiet, with minimal big plays, until Lakers’ Cortez Butler took a quarterback keeper 76 yards in for the score 20 seconds into the second quarter. After two Jackson touchdowns, though, the score was 22-18 in favor of West Bloomfield entering the half.

The Lakers and the Vikings of Jackson were in a stalemate until the 2:53 mark of the third quarter, when West Bloomfield’s Garrett Wynn broke open a 60-yard punt return touchdown to make the score 28-18 Lakers. In the remaining two and a half minutes of the third quarter, the Lakers and Jackson traded touchdowns, and the score was 36-24 Lakers entering the final quarter. West Bloomfield had a scare for a minute in the fourth quarter, as Jackson scored a touchdown with 10 minutes left in the game to come within six points of the Lakers, but WBHS answered with an 11-yard touchdown run with five minutes to go, making the final score 42-30.
