Week of October 13-October 17, 2014
This week at West Bloomfield High School (WBHS), the Lakers had many action-packed moments in sports. West Bloomfield participated in a plethora of events, which consisted of wins and losses in football, field hockey, cross country, soccer, and volleyball.
The WBHS Varsity football team was victorious on Friday, October 17th, in their final match of the season versus Rochester Hills Stoney Creek High School (SCHS). This contest resulted in a score of 54-29 and included an amazing performance by Junior Trishton Jackson, who contributed 7 touchdowns. Meanwhile, on Thursday, October 16, the WBHS Freshman and JV football teams both suffered disappointing losses against the SCHS. The Freshman team fell 26-14 and the JV team fell 19-6.
Field Hockey had mixed results in their battles on Wednesday, October 15th. The Varsity field hockey team’s tightly fought battle ended in a draw with a final score of 0-0 against Hartland High School. The JV team suffered an unfortunate loss of 3-1 against St. Catherine High School.
On the track this past Friday, the WBHS cross country team competed in a countywide tournament which included Rochester Hills Stoney Creek, Bloomfield Hills, Royal Oak, Troy Athens, North Farmington, and Farmington. Out of these 6 schools, the WBHS Varsity team placed 3rd with 73 points in the men’s 5,000 meter and placed last with 166 points in the women’s 5,000 meter. The match included stellar performances by Robby Niehof in 5th place (time:17:33) for the men’s team and by Roopa Gorur in 10th place (time:21:19) for the women’s team. The JV team finished 4th with 88 points in the men’s 5,000 meter and last in the women’s 5,000 meter with 193 points.
On Tuesday the 14th, the WBHS Boy’s Varsity soccer team fell short 1-0 in a well fought match against mighty Northville High School. This game concluded the hard fought season with a 3-7-6 record.
Laker fans saw mixed results with the women’s volleyball teams as the athletes took on Farmington Hills’ Harrison High School. The WBHS Varsity team lost all three sets in a final score of 3-1. On the other hand, the JV team came out victorious with a 3-0 win while the Freshman team came in clutch late in the match to make it a 2-1 win.
Whether it is football, soccer, cross country, field hockey, or volleyball, the Lakers are always ready for a challenge in a game, meet, or event. Laker fans are some of the most loyal fans, cheering on athletes in every sport. Come out and grab a seat at our next event.
