Getting to the Point
Debate this year is in full swing.
This year’s West Bloomfield High School (WBHS) Debate team is full of motivated and excited students ready to win any argument. They first met in the beginning of the year and discussed the basics of what debate entails. The Debate club students learned how to be affirmative and prove a point. Being a part of Debate means you have to dedicate a lot of time after school to practicing. On October 13th the Novices group went to Detroit Country Day and practiced what a debate looks like. On October 17th and 18th JV and Novices went to Dexter High School for an overnight trip. On JV, Neil Harran (junior) and Madde Husic (sophomore) got into the finals. Harran won first speaker on JV. On Novices team, Adam Ben-Moche (freshman) and Blake Bordelove (freshman) made it into the semi-finals and did great! Ben-Moche won fifth speaker and Jonathan Zhang (freshman) won third speaker. Mr. Thursam , WBHS English teacher, who runs Debate said, “the team did very well for their first tournament, we also have a large first year team which is great.” Raquell Kassa (freshman) said, “Debate is so cool, I loved getting involved with a new activity.” The Debate team has a lot of events this year and everyone is looking forward to cheering on WBHS’ Debate team!
