After an amazing 8-1 season, the West Bloomfield High School (WBHS) varsity football team ends their season in a close game against Walled Lake Central High School (WLC) for the district finals. The game began with no touchdowns in the first quarter and began to pick up right before halftime. WLC scored the first touchdown nearing the end of the first half but then with only nine seconds left, WBHS scored a touchdown making the score 8-7. Each team made one touchdown but WLC’s field goals put them ahead and by the end of the fourth quarter the game was 11-7. WBHS suffered four turnovers and multiple penalties that allowed WLC to stay ahead for most of the game. “I feel like we were better than them but we just made too many mistakes and didn’t take advantage of our opportunities,” said varsity running back Michael King.

Despite the loss, this season of football is one to go down in school history. This is one of the best teams WBHS has ever seen. This is the first time WBHS has hosted a home playoff game, let alone two, and with the most points scored as a team in school history and earning the school its first ever playoff win against Livonia Stevenson last week, this season is one to never forget.
The student section never fails to disappoint as the stands were filled with students decked out in their green and white to support the team. Despite the weather being in the 30’s, the Swamp bundled up and was still as loud as ever and cheered the team on until the final handshake. Not only did the football team have a phenomenal season, but the Swamp seemed to as well. The WBHS student section was named the number one student section in Michigan by the twitter page @TheD_Zone, which spotlights the best student sections all around the state. All in all, it was a great season for players and fans alike, and Laker Pride is at an all time high. Go Lakers!
