Debate Takes Groves High School
WBHS Debate team did a great job competing at Groves this past Friday and Saturday!
Now that the West Bloomfield High School (WBHS) Debate club is up and running, they have been competing in tournaments as a team. On Friday November 14th and Saturday November 15th the West Bloomfield High School Debate team had a tournament against multiple schools around Michigan. Novices, JV and Varsity all competed both days at Groves High School. Overall, the two day tournament went very well for the Debate club. Mr. Joel Thursam, the Debate coach and WBSHS teacher, said “The Groves tournament went very well, we have a big first year team which is great”.
On the Novices team Kapil Vyas, Adam Ben-Moche, Jonathan Zhang, Ugochi Ndupu, and Jinan Abufarha all received speaker awards. On JV, Neil Harran also won a speaker award. On Novices, Ugochi and Jonathan Zhang, Adam Ben-Moche and Jinan Abufarha, and Raquell Kassa and Dylan Barlow all made it to break rounds. Neil Harran and Madde Husic also made it to their break rounds. The club is becoming stronger and the members of all teams are growing closer to each other. Adam Ben-Moche, a freshman on the Novices team said “It’s really cool representing our school and making friends with people from other schools”. The Debate team is looking forward to their next tournament at Michigan State University and hosting the Novice states here at WBHS!
