Week of December 1-December 6
West Bloomfield High School continued to produce positive results in athletics. As the winter sports continued to transition in. There was a celebratory mood in the school. This week, December 1 to December 6, has been filled with Girls Basketball and Boys Varsity hockey. They have provided much excitement to the students at West Bloomfield High School, and have earned support at their games.
On Wednesday, December 3rd the boys Varsity Hockey team went head to head Royal Oak High School (ROHS) scored 4 goals, coming from Sean Wigler (senior), Michael Kolodin (senior), and Daniel Kassab (sophomore). They totalled for an outcome of 4 goals scored. Unfortunately, these goals were not enough to get the win against the Ravens. The final score of the game was Ravens 6, Lakers 4. Despite the loss, the Swamp (WBHS student section) was present in full support of their talented hockey team. The Varsity hockey team had a chance to come back strong after the loss they suffered on Wednesday. On Saturday, December 6th, the Lakers took on Dewitt St. John’s High School. The Lakers were able to score 5 goals. Andre Kilpela (junior) scored 2 and Andrew McDonald (junior), JD Long (sophomore), and Braedon Somers (sophomore) all scored 1 goal. After the win on Saturday, the Varsity Hockey team is now 3-1. With 22 games left in the season, the Lakers keep proving that they are here to continue their strong season and desire the prized trophy.
The Girls’ basketball took the hardwood this week competing in several grueling games against formidable opponents. On Tuesday, December 2nd, the Freshman, JV, and Varsity teams faced Clarkston High School (CHS). The Freshman team played against Clarkston JH at Clarkston Junior High. The Freshman team fell 31-15. JV exited with an outstanding victory with a final score of 34-26 and Varsity lost their hard fought battle, 61-28. On December 5th, the Varsity team went head to head with Walled Lake Central at WLC High School (WLC). Varsity claimed the victory as they outscored WLC 44-30.
A special congratulations to West Bloomfield High School Varsity football coach and teacher, Ronald Bellamy, on being awarded Division 1 Coach of the Year. He led the Varsity team to a 9-2 season and an appearance in a District Final match.
Overall, this past week was filled with excitement in both basketball and hockey, and with both seasons still in the beginning points, there are sure to be more thrills and excitement as more games are played.
