Around the World in 80 Platters

The annual “Taste of Culture” lunch held on Friday, March 27, 2015.

West Bloomfield High School (WBHS) honors diversity in many ways. There are numerous clubs such as African American Awareness Club, Spanish Club, Japanese Club, French Club, etc. Another way WBHS honors diversity was through the annually held Taste of Culture Luncheon. Spanish teacher Gregory Vennettiilli held this event on Friday, March 27, 2015. For one dollar students were able to try a variety of entrees and desserts. Vennettilli stated “The Taste of culture is held to highlight over 60 ethnicities that we have here in the high school.” For this luncheon, world language students donated dishes for extra credit.

“We have always had an Ethnic Festival for about 20 years here at WBHS.  Over the years it has changed from a Festival to a display of ethnic dishes from all over the world.  Our present Taste of Culture has been going on for about 10 years,” explained Vennettilli. His hopes for the ethnic lunch were “to bring awareness of the various cultures that we have here in the school.  For one dollar students have the opportunity to sample the foods of the many different cultures that are represented within our school.”

The Taste of Culture lunch was just one way WBHS honors the wide diversity of students. Along with clubs and other events, the Taste of Culture helps spread awareness of the numerous cultures in the West Bloomfield community.
