Spotlight on: New Teachers

The start of a new school year means new opportunities to learn new things, discover your passions and prepare for your future. That would not be possible without the help and guidance of the educators who we know and love in our school. This year, WBHS welcomes seven new teachers to their staff. Meet them now!

Christopher Finneran

1. What do you teach?

I teach American History and resource room American/World History.

2. For how many years have you been teaching?

I have been teaching for 26 years.

3. What is something students who are in your class should expect?

They can expect to see me laugh. I think I’m pretty funny.

4. What college did you attend?

Oakland University, Wayne State, and Madonna University.

5. What is a fun fact about you?

Joel Hunt

1. What do you teach?

Fashion Merchandising I & II, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Investing/Corporate Finance.

2. For how many years have you been teaching?

This is my ninth year teaching.

3. What is a piece of advice you have for your students?

Enjoy being a teen; don’t try to grow up too fast.

4. What college did you attend?

B.B.A. in marketing from Western Michigan University, Teaching Certification from Eastern Michigan University, M.B.S. from Lawrence Technological University.

5. What is a fun fact about you?

I hold a taco eating record (16) in St. Thomas U.S.V.I.

Tara McDonald

1. What do you teach?

Engineering, Sprint and Beginning Programming.

2. For how many years have you been teaching?

This is my sixth year.

3. What is a piece of advice you have for your students?

Always give your best to everything you try.

4. What do you like about WBHS so far?

Everyone I have met has been so friendly.

5. What is a fun fact about you?

I was on the U of M dance team when I was in college.

David Weeks

CAD and Architecture.

Nine and a half years.

3. What do you like about WBHS so far?

I like that the students work hard and hold themselves to high expectations.

Eastern Michigan University.

5. What is a fun fact about you?

I am an identical twin

Amanda Bailey

I teach resource room reading.

2. For how many years have you been teaching?

This is my ninth year teaching but my first year teaching in high school. I taught elementary school for eight years.

3. What do you like about WBHS so far?

The students are easy to communicate and relate to.

4. What is a piece of advice you have for your students?

To never give up and stay determined.

5. What is a fun fact about you?

I am from New York.

Franklin Brininger

Learning Strategies and a push in Algebra 1 class.

2. For how many years have you been teaching?

15 years.

3. What is a piece of advice you have for your students?

Use your agenda wisely and make a big effort to stay organized.

4. What do you like about WBHS so far?

I like the students and the block scheduling.

5. What is a fun fact about you?

I have a twin sister who is also a teacher.

Debra Shafran

1. What do you teach?

Special education.

2. For how many years have you been teaching?

Over 29 years.

3. What is your favorite thing about WBHS so far?

My students.

4. Why did you become a teacher?

I chose teaching because of the love I have for students with special needs.

5. What is a fun fact about you?

That my hair is real and it’s not a wig.
