As the 2014-2015 school year has come to a close for the 2015 graduates of West Bloomfield high school (WBHS), their post high school journey started with prom. Wednesday May 27, 2015 was a night that many have anticipated, even yearned for since their freshman year. Seniors styled their hair, slipped on their shoes, and stepped out for a night at prom. Held at The Detroit Yacht Club on the island of Belle Isle, located on the Detroit River, limos and fancy cars arrived at 7:00 for a night of fun. Run by WBHS teachers and senior advisors, Kathleen Townsend and Nicole Laffata, the night was full of food, fun, and excitement. Countless fundraisers and much planning went into making prom a memorable night for everyone who attended. No matter how much the school does to put on the prom, none of it would happen without the students.

Attended by  seniors, foreign exchange students, staff, a few underclassmen, and professional athlete, the WBHS 2015 Prom screamed party.   In talking to people at prom, Spectrum asked, How long did it take you to get ready for prom and what was your prom experience like? Graduate Carlee Widmer said, “It took me about two hours, my friend did my hair and makeup. Prom was really fun. It was so cool to see everybody dressed up and looking so good. It was also fun to be with our whole class again.” Graduate Briana Lee said, “It took me HOURS to get ready! I would say over 4 hours. And prom was fantastic. Everyone was dancing and taking pictures and talking. The energy was just through the roof!” Graduate Carine Ingweiller said, “It took her three hours to get ready,” whereas it took graduate Tatiana Hapsburg four hours. Some requires less time; graduate Joshua Palmer took about five minutes to get all done up and ready. Underclassmen enjoying the night were asked the same questions, Garrett Winn, 10th grade, said “It took me about an hour to get dressed myself, but waiting on my date felt like forever. Prom was a very positive experience. I am glad to get the opportunity to go before senior year. It was fun to see everyone dressed up and having fun, including teachers and chaperones. Bianca Hoban, 11th grade, said “It took me about an hour to do makeup, an hour to do my hair, and a little over a half hour for everything else. It was a great experience! I loved to see everyone so dressed up, the dancing and pictures were fun to!”

For four years seniors have been dreaming of this night and were finally able to experience it first hand. Throughout the night, a sense of connection and energy was felt amongst the class as a whole. The glamour and fun was evident, but there were some surprises.”I never would have imagined a famous person would have come to our prom,” senior Emily Rooks said about having the famous NBA player Andre Drummond at prom. After a twitter campaign, Raquel Smith got Andre to accept her proposal to be her date for prom. This is just one of the memorable things that will stay with the 2015 Laker graduates for the rest of their lives. The night was not only fun, but also memorable for all who attended.
