The best family friendly halloween movies.
Many people enjoy horror movies, and love the thrill of being scared. On the contrary many people who are easily frightened tend to steer away from the horror/ Halloween genre, and toward more family friendly/animated movies. The spectrum staff has rated and reviewed 10 of the best “Horror Movies” for the squeamish.

1- You can watch this with out a problem (You will probably laugh)
2-This isn’t bad at all
3- A few jump scares, not too bad
4-okay, this is getting kinda scary
5- You may need to change your pants

1.Hocus Pocus (1993)- Hocus Pocus is a Disney produced movie about three witches who are resurrected in Salem Massachusetts after three centuries on Halloween night. It is up to two teen girls and an immortal black cat to put an end to the witch sisters terror. Scare Scale: 1
2.The Addams Family (1991)- The Addams Family Is a Paramount produced film is a black comedy movie that is perfect to watch with the family. Scare Scale: 1
3.Beetle Juice (1988)- Beetle Juice is a Warner Brothers produced film about a couple of recently deceased ghost who want the help of a bio-exorcist in removing the new owners of their house. This is a delightfully funny Halloween movie that is enjoyable for all ages. Scare Scale: 1
4.Casper (1995)- Casper You know the saying “the original is always the best” which is the case for this movie. This is a delightful Universal movie that is funny and enjoyable for all movie lovers. Casper is about a girl who inherits her father’s mansion after he dies. The girl, frustrated decides to burn it down, that is until she finds a map that lead to a hidden treasure in her house. When she is about to enter the mansion and retrieve the treasure, she is quickly scared away by wicked ghost. Determined to find the treasure, she hires a afterlife therapist that talks to ghost. While doing so she meets a “friendly ghost” named Casper. Together they try to bring all of the ghost back to the other side where they belong. Scare Scale: 1
5.Coraline (2009)- Coraline is a Focus Feature film that is a little more disturbing and freaky compared to some of the previously listed movies. Coraline is about a girl who moves into a new house, and is feeling neglected by her parents. One day she notices a small door in her living room that leads to a parallel universe where everyone has buttons instead of eyes. While in the parallel universe, coralines Button-eyed mom tries to get her to stay in the parallel universe forever. Caroline rejects the offer which causes a feud between the two. Coraline must complete different task that her button-eyed mother hands her so that she can save her friends, and return to her own dimension.This is a great movie to watch with friends and family, and perfect for people who want to watch a “scary” movie without being totally frightened! 6.Paranorman (2012)- Paranorman is a Focus Feature Film created by the same producers as Caroline. Unlike Caroline this movie is not disturbing, and is actually a very cute, loving family movie. Paranorman is about a 12 year old boy named Norman who can see and talk to ghost. One day Norman sees his deceased uncle, who tells Norman that he has to perform a ritual soon so that the ghost’s don’t take over. Norman sets out on an adventure with his friends to complete the ritual before its too late. Scare Scale: 1
7.Ghost Busters (1952)- Ghostbusters is a Columbia Pictures film that is recognized world wide. If you don’t know what Ghostbusters is, then what have you been doing with your life? Scare Scale:1
8.The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)- The Nightmare Before Christmas is a Disney film that is perfect for both Halloween and Christmas! The Nightmare Before Christmas is about Jack Skeleton, King of the Pumpkin Patch, who is tired of doing the same thing every year for Halloween. One day while Jack is taking a walk through the forest he stumbles across a door that leads to Christmas. In excitement Jack instructs three children to kidnap Santa Claus so that he (Jack) can host christmas for the year. The whole town tries to adjust to the new ways of Christmas, but just cant seem to get it down right. Scare Scale: 1
9.The Corpse Bride (2005)- The Corpse Bride is a Warner brother film that is perfect for anyone who is looking for a fun, pure, and wholesome movie. The movie takes place in the late 1800s in a Victorian village. A man and woman by the names of Victor Van Dort and Victoria Everglot are betrothed because the Everglots need the money or they’ll be living on the streets and the Van Dorts want to be high in society. But when things don’t go as planned at the wedding rehearsal, Victor goes into the woods to practice his vows. Just as soon as he gets them right, he finds himself married to Emily, the corpse bride. While Victoria waits on the other side, there’s a rich newcomer who tries to take Victor’s place. So two brides, one groom, who will Victor pick? Scare Scale: 1
10.Teen Witch ( 1989)- Teen Witch is a MGM Film about Louise an unpopular girl who is the descendant of witches in Salem Massachusetts. At first Louise uses her powers to get revenge at the students and teachers that made fun of her in the past, She also uses her powers to attract the attention of the Handsome Football Captain. As time progresses, Louise starts to second guess the choices she is making, and starts to question if it is right to earn her popularity this way. Scare Scale:1
