The electric crowd vibrated the steel bleachers under the bright lights on Friday, October 9th as the Lakers dominated their Oxford competition. The Lakers challenged Oxford High School with a lopsided final score of 47-28 on the night of WBHS’s annual homecoming game. The hot chocolate was flowing as the Swamp jumped and cheered on their Lakers in unison. The Lakers took an early lead by scoring on their opening drive. Brandon Williams (senior) proved to be successful in the red zone as he made a light 8 yard pass to Michigan State commit, Trishton Jackson (senior). The crowd’s confidence soared after the first touchdown, but failed to last in length as the Wildcats were quick in responding with 2 back to back touchdowns. At the half the Lakers led 26-14 and they were in high spirits as their heads were held high. Then began the halftime festivities, with included a performance by a highly ranked WBHS marching band to soothe the ears of the eager Swampers. Following that, the Varsity cheerleading and poms teams graced the field with their elaborate dance routines. The highlight of every Homecoming is the crowing of the King and Queen. Seniors Mario Kakos and Myah Henry elegantly accepted their crowns and sashes as they were named West Bloomfield High School’s 2016 Homecoming King and Queen. Shortly after, the undefeated Lakers ran onto the field ready to append the second half. Leading in the 3rd quarter, touchdowns by Garrett Winn and Trishton Jackson only took the Lakers higher and higher, ending with the score at 33-21. The atmosphere permeated the Laker Stadium with The Swamp chanting “I believe we will win”, proud parents screaming “Go Lakers,” and the spectators all around astonished at the sweeping victory. The Lakers left successful once again, and ready more than ever to take on Stoney Creek.
