Students give back to soldiers for the holiday season
Students in the AICI have been making cards for the last 3 years for the soldiers. This year they decided to expand a little and make cards for soldiers specifically in Afghanistan and Kuwait. One of WBHS’ teachers has a son who is deployed in Afghanistan, which inspired the students to send their packages to that location. Making the cards has always been a big hit and sometimes students will receive letters and pictures back as a thank you from the soldiers. This year, Mrs.Shafran decided to contact the soldiers to receive their holiday wish lists. Based off of the soldiers’ desires, she opened up a drive to the entire school to donate each item. Some examples include toothpaste, toothbrushes and deodorant. The students also continued their trend of making cards and writing letters. All of Mrs.Shafran’s students helped package the boxes. The students managed to send 35 boxes overseas. It took an hour and a half to process all of the boxes at the post office. The shipments should most likely be received right in time for Christmas.
Overall, students enjoyed giving back and thanking the soldiers for all of their hard work. It’s important to be thankful for everything this season, and provide for those in need. West Bloomfield High School surely is thankful for these soldiers and wishes them a happy holidays.
