Week of January 11-16
February 18, 2016
The Boys Varsity Hockey team seized the ice on January 14 versus Royal Oak High School. Unfortunately the Lakers lost by a fairly wide margin, 6 goals, the final ending with a 3-9 score. On January 16 the Lakers lost another game to Bloomfield United with a final of 4-6. One of the Lakers’ best achievements that night was the hat trick by JD Long (junior). The Lakers look to turn things around in their next game against Oxford High School.
On the 12 of January the Lakers battled against De La Salle High School. It was a tough game and hard fought, however the lakers could not prevail, losing with a final of 40-59. Kevin McAdoo (junior) dropped 16 points and Trishton Jackson (senior) dropped 9. On the 15, three days later, West Bloomfield was a completely different team, beating Avondale High School in a nailbiter. The Lakers won 73-70, a game that made everyone anxious. Jackson finished with 25 points, McAdoo finished with 23, and Davion Johnson (junior) scored 10. The victory was a great way to finish off the week.
The Laker Varsity Figure Skating team spun their way to the ice to dominate in their second Figure Skating competition of the year in a District 5 match. The Lakers took third, fourth, and sixth place medals to finish in a solid 4th place. This WBHS team looks to continue to sweep the boards and further build their young program.
The WBHS Varsity Girls basketball took to the court in an OAA White division match against Lake Orion to pull off a 55-48 victory. The Lakers commanded the first quarter, by taking an 18-9 lead. As halftime approached Lake Orion rallied to outscore the Lakers 18-10 in the second and 13-8 in the third. The Dragons held a six-point lead early in the fourth quarter, but the Lakers were saving their best for last and stuck back with high intensity and went off on Lake Orion, resulting in a well deserved win. The Lakers should be very proud of this win, as they never gave up.
