Going green saves the green in your wallet

Starting next Thursday, October 2nd, our very own West Bloomfield High School (WBHS) Earth Club will be selling LED light bulbs for $3.50 each. You can buy these light bulbs in room 510, Mr. Joshua Barclay’s room. The WBHS Earth Club is all about, “acting locally, and thinking globally, about ways we can have a sustainable society,” says Barclay.

“Our goal is to get these deployed soon,” says Barclay, leader of Earth Club. “For every one light bulb deployed, approximately one ton of carbon dioxide emissions are prevented from going from going into the air.” Earth Club is an important part of our high school life, focusing on the health and over all well being of Earth, while also providing a fun and unique experience to learn about the multitudes of ways we, as a society, can clean up our our planet. Along with saving the green of Earth, the club’s light bulb drive will save the green in your wallet too, “Every incandescent you replace, typically for one of these light bulbs, you save about $100 each year.”

According to realestate.msn.com, Americans spend 90% of their time indoors. If this statistic is true, then humans should really think about the light they use. LED bulbs use less electricity, and are healthier for the environment than incandescent bulbs. This idea could save the world, one light bulb at a time.
