Through the snow and cold that came with this past winter season, the West Bloomfield High School (WBHS) varsity wrestling fought through and had a very successful season. For seniors, Deshawn Cole, Matt Gudenau, Justin Hollins, and Paul Kamash, this season was their last time on a high school mat. From December through March, the wrestling team was hard at work to win titles.

Gudenau and Kamash have been wrestling with WBHS for four years. Gudenau has been captain for two years and his favorite memory was winning his Oakland County title. He plans on wrestling in college and says, “I will miss the coaches the most.” While Kamash says, “I will miss the the grind and the intensity the most,  along with the bonds I created with some wrestlers along the way.” Kamash does not plan to wrestle competitively in the future but does plan on wrestling to help out his teammates.

Cole has only wrestled for one year but he says he loves how close the team is and when asked about his favorite memory, says, “I can’t really pick a favorite moment, I just loved being with the team.” Cole has no plans to wrestle in the future.

Hollins has been a part of the wrestling team for two and a half years and went undefeated in league play. He says he will miss his coaches the most and plans on coaching after college.

All four seniors were very successful throughout their high school careers and are now off to their futures, whether that involves wrestling or not.  Good luck, Lakers!  We know you will pin it down at college!
