On Sunday, May 31 2015 the West Bloomfield High School (WBHS) senior class of 2015 attended their graduation. It was a very emotional morning filled with the buzz of excitement in the air, despite the gloomy weather outside.  Student speakers began the ceremony with greetings and speeches to their graduating class. Jaeina Limbo and Jonathan Nirenberg were two of these student speakers. Other speakers included administrators such as Principal Pat Watson and Superintendent Dr. Gerald Hill. Class President Limbo started the ceremony off with a speech that warmed the hearts of those in the room. After the singing of the national anthem and the class song “It’s Time” by Imagine Dragons, the ceremony began.

The first eighty of the 409 graduating WBHS seniors to accept their diplomas were graduating with the honor of Summa Cum Laude. This means that they had a GPA of 4.0 or higher. Summa Cum Laude senior, Jordyn Weiss, had mixed feelings about graduating. She said: “It is very bittersweet to graduate. I know I will miss my friends the most.” Weiss will be attending the University of Michigan in the fall. Shelby Wolok, who will be attending Arizona State University, is another individual who “didn’t really know how to feel.” He explained, “I felt happy in the beginning although once the speeches were being said, I became upset.” He realized that “life is short and high school is such a big part of life.”

The many other graduating seniors were called up to accept their diplomas as well. As Weiss mentioned, the graduation was very bittersweet. There were things to celebrate and things to miss. Wolok stated that what he will miss the most is “classmates the most, because, to be honest, that was the reason I enjoyed coming to school. So many of them brightened up my day and made it much easier to enjoy not only school but life as a whole.” Wolok’s fellow classmates, staff and faculty, and the entire WBHS community is something he will miss. Overall, seniors expressed sadness to leave WBHS and excitement to graduate and continuing on the road ahead of them.
