Lights, camera, and action! Last Sunday, January 5th, the Golden Globes took place at the Beverly Hilton, in Beverly Hills California. The best actors, directors, and celebrities were ready to take pride in their work and congratulate their fellow celebs. Hollywood life seems so odd and different from what students’ lives are like at WB, so do students even care about what happened that night?
“I definitely care, haha. Tom and Zendaya’s announcement was crazy and they’re so cute!” Junior Abraya Spitsbergen said. “And her ring was crazy!” Zendaya showed up to the Golden Globes with a very beautiful diamond ring on her ring finger and it was confirmed that she and Tom got engaged. Many students have heard of the news and are so excited for them!
Another major announcement was Wicked winning the cinematic and box office achievement awards. Wicked was the third most popular movie this year based on the box office and students had things to say. “Oh my god, Wicked was so good! I loved the musical even before the movie and all the actors held up even better than I thought. The songs were so good and Cynthia Erivo’s voice in Defying Gravity blew me away!” Said junior, Joshua Weiss.
But freshman Jiannica Macalino said, “I saw Wicked but didn’t care for it that much. The songs were definitely fun, but I just didn’t really love it. I see why people would though.”
Sebastian Stan was being interviewed for winning the award for best actor in a comedy. He chatted with the interviewer and then Anthony Mackie came to congratulate him. It was a sweet moment that many people noticed and Marvel fans especially were thrilled.
“Okay I am definitely a Marvel fan but it doesn’t matter even because I would have loved that moment no matter what. Their hug was the sweetest thing and I’m so glad Sebastian Stan got the award.” Said junior Abraya.
But, even with all the love from students, some just don’t care about the Golden Globes at all. “I mean I saw a few things on Tiktok about Zendaya and Glen Powell but I don’t care that much. It feels like not that many awards were given and people weren’t talking about it as much as other award shows.” Junior, Madison Mcnulty said.
Overall though, students were very impressed by the fancy outfits. After being shown Ariana Grande’s look, Abraya said, “Ooh I like the dress, it looks a lot like Bridgerton!” Junior Julianne Garcia chimed in, “Yeah it looks like something a royal person would wear.”
The Golden Globes is one of the many award shows people look forward to every year. The fact that it comes right at the beginning of the new year and showcases what happened the year prior really makes it all the more exciting. It solidifies itself as the award show to culminate the whole year and 2024’s was definitely a special one.
