Take a trip to Wonderland- with an Ozian twist! The talented theatre department and actors at WBHS are putting on a production of the children’s play Dorothy in Wonderland in early October of this school year. The school is known for its stunning theatrical productions, and the Children’ s Play is often a favorite of students and staff from every grade level.
But often, the actors are the main focus, when there’s a whole wonderland backstage. From the crew in charge of building the elaborate set, to the people working tirelessly in hair and makeup to make sure the actors look their best, there’s more to a production than meets the eye.
Junior Jasmyn Benedict, a member of the costuming department, talked about the challenges and benefits of working behind the scenes.
“It’s really easy [to work with the actors], everyone’s pretty chill. They understand what has to be done so they know how to do it,” Benedict said.
But according to her, corralling the department’s resources is the hardest part.
“Like, if we don’t have ribbon, how do we get ribbon? Do we need to pay for it ourselves? Stuff like that, just finding resources, that’s what is the most difficult.”
