Once again, this past week was a light one in terms of sports for West Bloomfield High School.

On Wednesday, November 4, the Lakers Varsity Girls Volleyball team went head to head with Harrison High School, which unfortunately resulted in a loss for the Lakers with a 1-3 final favoring Harrison. This loss was a tough one to digest as it was in the semi finals. Gabi Allread (senior) led the Lakers on offense with 13 kills, followed by Shannon Heald (senior) with 9. Nyla Greer (junior) added with 6 and Vanessa Vigier (junior) chipped in with 4. Lindsey DuFresne (senior) had an incredible 30 assists, setting up her teammates with the kill opportunities. Greer, Vigier and Audrey Kohl (junior) all finished with 2 block kills for the Lakers. Allread led the defense as well, with 25 digs by the end of the night. Lauren Powers (junior) was not far behind 22 digs herself. Avra DeYoung (junior) had 12 digs helping the Lakers effort and keeping them in the close battle. Despite the loss, the Lakers finished with a remarkable season. Their finishing record was 31-10-1 and a league record of 7-0. They also finished as OAA White Division Champions, WB Invitational Runner-Up, Groves Invite Champions, and Lakers and Fields Champs.

A congratulations goes out to Taylor Pierce who was named “All-League” for the Girls Golf season. She has earned this honor consecutively for the past two years. She finished the season with a low 46 average per nine. When she finished with a 42 per nine holes, she finished in first in the OAA Blue league tournament and second in the league tournament finishing with 95 strokes after 18 holes. Pierce also ranked in Oakland County Division 2 as a top ten player shooting 82 in the tournament. Pierce’s great season definitely did not go unnoticed. Congratulations, Taylor!
