To Hover or Not To Hover, That is the Question
Kids are spending hundreds of dollars to get the new form of transportations.
Teenagers all around the world are becoming crazed by a new form of personal transportation. Children, media, and corporations are now calling these creations, hoverboards. These scooters are handleless segways. They don’t actually have the ability to hover but they have seemed to catch the eye of young adults everywhere. Teenagers have been begging their parents for these, but parents are hesitant to buying them because they can be dangerous. Not to mention, they can range from $300 to $2,000. However, some parents disagree. Rebecca Goldberg, mother of 3, lives in West Bloomfield and has a son who purchased a hoverboard. She is in favor of this hoverboard movement and said, “It is awesome. He plays all the time; he is outside for hours.” The parents who are not in favor might contradict that statement by saying that their kids spend too much time on their hoverboards, and not enough time doing things like homework and chores.
After asking children if they wanted a hoverboard most of them said yes, but there were a few are against the “hoverboard movement.” They believe that they are too much money, too expensive, and not to mention, inefficient. “They are hard to work, and plus nobody would spend that time trying to figure out how to use it, they cost too much anyway,” said sophomore Collin Long.
Even celebrities have been spotted with hoverboards. Actor Jamie Foxx was seen on a hoverboard while making an appearance on The Tonight Show. Foxx came in on a hoverboard created by the brand Phunkeeduck. The hoverboards from Phunkeeduck.com are $1,500. They weigh 18 pounds and can carry up to 300 pounds. They go 12 miles per hour and take 2 to 3 hours to fully charge. Once charged, they can last up to six or seven hours. PhunkeeDuck.com shows pictures of celebrities using their product. Justin Bieber, Wiz Khalifa, and Clay Matthews all have PhunkeeDucks. Kendall Jenner even has one, although there is a viral video of her falling off of hers.
As hoverboards become more and more popular, sales are exceeding availability quickly. Other companies are coming up with low quality scooters and selling them for the same price. Although they look the same, these devices have been proven to crack and even break in the middle. Overall, these so called “hoverboards” are the new trend, in all likelihood, celebrities will be seen in a few with something new and the demand for these scooters will go down. The choice to get these are based off of personal needs, and it is a person’s choice to join the hoverboard movement. To hover or not to hover; that is the question.
