Bruno Mars is a singer who released his newest album “The Romantic” on February 27, 2026. This album is his fourth solo album that includes 9 total tracks that focus on an intimate retro soul feel for his album. The total length of this album was 31 minutes for all 9 tracks. As the title of this album suggests, I think that the album was able to focus and express various forms of romance throughout his songs pretty well with the help of his lyrics and instrumentals that created a more intimate feeling.
Bruno Mars is a Grammy winning American singer and songwriter that has been releasing songs and albums since 2010, with his debut single being “Just The Way You Are”. He’s known for having a high energy and funk inspired music style that has helped him draw in his fanbase. During this release, many of the songs follow a more Latin beat and instrumental which has helped to create a more enamored feeling when listening. Latin music is often referred to as deeply romantic as well as poetic. When listening to the album, I noticed the Latin beats particularly in the songs “Risk It All”, “Cha Cha Cha”, and “Something Serious”. With these songs, they follow the themes of commitment and devotional love to a playful and flirtatious love to a passionate and sensual love that are all enhanced and brought out with the Latin instrumentals.
When an artist as big as Bruno Mars releases a new album, it’s expected that many people will have an opinion on it, whether good or bad. When looking at reviews and opinions for this album, you’ll see that there’s a very mixed reaction. Some netizens will say that the romantic feelings feel artificial and that he’s just singing off of a script while others will say that they love the raw feelings and wished to be serenaded to with songs like the ones released. While listening to the tracks, I ended up being able to see both sides. When tracks like “Risk It All” played, I was able to feel the yearning, the love, and the romance. On the other hand, while songs like “On My Soul” and “Cha Cha Cha” played, I wasn’t able to feel the emotions, affection, or the passion as deeply as I did for the other ones. In fact, it did feel artificial and fake at some moments. However, even though it did feel artificial, I was still able to tell what kind of love he was trying to portray in the songs, with each song having a different kind of love.
However, some things that I would’ve liked to see within the album were more adventurous beats. The beats within the tracks came off as very safe and even though they had a more Latin feeling compared to his past releases, it felt like the beats were made knowing that it would be popular and well received by the public. I wished he had branched out more when choosing them because as an artist if you stick to the same kinds of beats it’s like putting yourself in a box and once you step outside of the box later, it can lead to people receiving it poorly since they expect the same thing over and over. The album itself also seemed like it was very short with the overall length being 31 minutes. I personally would’ve liked for there to be more songs that I could listen to just because I like to listen to music when doing homework and studying which takes a longer time span than just 30 minutes.
All in all, I would 100% recommend giving this album a try. While the beats do feel a little bit repetitive compared to his past tracks, the songs are very easy to listen to and find catchy, so it’s easy to get immersed when listening unlike songs that may be catchy but not very easy to click and connect with. Some of the songs that I thought were going to be average and nothing special ended up surprising me and exceeded my expectations which could also happen to you. The album has songs that range from upbeat and energetic to melancholy and calmer songs so it has some songs for almost everyone to listen to and possibly like.
