On February 9, the girls varsity basketball team squared off with Lake Orion High School in a close game. The Lakers kept it close but could not overtake their opponent, losing 50-60. There were three top [players for the Lakers. Charlika Stubbs (senior) scored 18 points for the Lakers, performing well as always. Taylor Pierce (senior) also chipped in, scoring 15 of her own in addition to 17 rebounds, finishing with a double double. Mazey Kyriakoza (senior) added to the Lakers’ effort with 11 points. However, this was not enough, and the Lady Lakers lost by a mere 10 points.

On Wednesday, the 10, the varsity hockey team took the ice versus Walled Lake Northern but unfortunately lost with a final score of 2-5. Cameron Dickinson (senior) scored a goal and Alec Rinaldi (senior) also scored a goal, and could have had 2 if it weren’t for the controversial call by the referees who ruled his first goal as not a goal because the net was not secure on the ice. The Lakers let up 3 power play goals and as a result, lost to WLN.

On February 12, both boys and girls basketball team had games. The boys faced off with Avondale High School and absolutely crushed, winning 62-37. Trishton Jackson (senior) dropped 16 points for the Lakers, along with Tre Harvey, the sophomore stud, who scored 13 points and Kevin McAdoo (junior) who dropped 12. Overall, the boys varsity basketball season has been going well and they continue to plow through their opponents. Girls varsity basketball played Bloomfield Hills and won a neck and neck game 39-35. Stubbs led the Lakers with 10 points and 7 assists, Pierce scored 8 and grabbed 9, close to back to back double doubles, and Kyriakoza scored 10. The past few games have been going good for the Lady Lakers and they look to keep this strong play going.

The athletics at West Bloomfield High School have shown some good things this year and as the seasons start to unwind they look to finish strong and make the last few games of the season, and for some their high school careers, more than memorable.
