This featured the Lakers’ winter sports in full force including snowboarding, boys basketball, and girls basketball.

The WBHS girls snowboarding team dominated their district competition on Thursday, February 4th to finish in a solid 4th place. The Lakers were led by Gabrielle Lambert who finished with a 1st place medal along with 3rd place medals in two events. Christina Ratinaud also performed well with  2nd, 4th and a 5th place finishes. The Lakers’ stellar performance earned them a spot in the upcoming  Alpine Crossover meet on Tuesday, February 9th.

 

The girls varsity basketball suffered a tough loss, despite their tremendous efforts against against . The first matched up against rival Royal Oak High School on Thursday, February 4th. The Lakers dominated the third quarter 12-4, to enter the 4th with a 24-19 lead. The Lakers’ slim lead and frail defensive efforts proved to be insufficient to bring them the victory. Royal Oak rallied in the 4th quarter to conquer the Lakers and finish with the 36-29 victory. Charlika Stubbs (senior) led WBHS with 12 points. With the loss, the Lakers fell to 7-7 (3-3 OAA White).

 

The WBHS varsity basketball team took to the road to take on two high profile rivals. The Lakers first took on Pontiac High School, but were unable to hold on late and fell by a slim 3 point margin, 44-41. The Lakers were led by Kevin McAdoo (junior) who finished with 12 points and Tyler Davis (junior) with 10 points. The Lakers looked to bounce back on Thursday, February 4th and did just that. The Lakers took command of the game early in the 1st quarter, outscoring their opponents 32-13. WBHS went on to prevail with the solid 76-61 victory. Kevin McAdoo dominated with 28 points, Tre Harvey had 13 points, Davion Johnson had 12 points, and Trishton Jackson finished with 8. The Lakers’ dominance showed with 11 out of thirteen men scoring, showing a united team effort.
