Learning about their future careers, while having fun is exactly what the seniors of Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) are experts at. Seniors Krunal Moradiya, Supriya Gupta, Serena Hoost and Nyteia Tyler are leaving legacies at HOSA this year as graduating seniors of the first year that HOSA has existed as an official club. HOSA/ the Health Science Club is a club where students who are interested in going into the Health Sciences cluster meet to practice for the HOSA regional and state competitions. The HOSA regional competitions are usually held before April, and the HOSA state competition is held in mid-April, and the HOSA national competition in July. Students are able to select from a wide variety of leadership and teamwork events to compete in. Some events include prepared speaking, researched persuasive speaking, biomedical debate, medical innovation, and public service announcement.

Hoost started HOSA as a sophomore, last year. Hoost was unable to compete in the state competition this year, however she competed in the regional competition. Gupta participated in both the regional level competition and the state level competition. Gupta says that participating in the state level competition “was not only a great experience, but an opportunity to learn so much and to bond so much with my friends.”

Tyler was the fundraising coordinator of HOSA, and says that her favorite part about being in HOSA was “Competing in the events and meeting new people from other schools.”

Moradiya was the secretary of HOSA, and says that his favorite part of being in HOSA was “the experience at HOSA states, and interacting with other students that had a passion for Health Science.”

Moradiya relished the thrill of learning about a diverse field of topics and interacting with other who shared a common passion for learning. Reflecting upon his HOSA days, Moradiya says that his favorite memory was the, “experience at HOSA States, and interacting with other students who had a passion for health science.” He continued to say, “HOSA will impact me by influencing my major in college and my plans to be a physician. HOSA has improved and expanded upon my knowledge of health science. It has allowed me to grow as a problem solver.” After graduation, Moradiya plans on pursuing pre-med and business at the University of Michigan.

This year’s Lakers have created a legacy that will last forever by persevering and being pioneers in creating the Health Science Club. Future students will be inspired to join and further continue the success of the club. Congratulations to all the seniors of HOSA and good luck to them in their future endeavors!
