Based on a true story that was inspired by a memoir, “From Scratch” Starring Zoe Saldana and Eugenio Mastrandrea, is a drama limited series based upon an American woman who’s studying trying to discover her passion and a Sicilian chef. The series focuses on the two who find love but eventually Lino (Eugenio Mastrandrea), suddenly finds out he has cancer, which has a terrible impact on them.

The thing about this series that stands out to me the absolute most is how surreal it was. The storyline is so real it shows the true chemistry of love and what it means till death do us part. Not only that but it shows true passion for going after your dreams.

Building themselves a name in what they do was challenging but they made sure they took risks in order to get what they both wanted out of life. They made sure it was a partnership and neither of them were in it alone.

Zoe Saldana and Eugenio Mastrandrea showed their talents, they knew how to work off each other well, more specifically they knew how to keep things professional but realistic. The way that the sequence and plots were put together made it even more interesting.

In terms of specific individual performance, Zoe Saldana did a great job with the flow of the emotions, the reality of jobs, and what it’s like being with someone of another race. Meanwhile Eugenio Mastrandrea did  just as good as well, especially with having to act with being “different”, act out an illness that has taken lives, and last but not least the ability to chase after his dreams of being a chef as well.

Now even though the story is focused on Lino (Eugenio Mastrandrea) and Amy (Zoe Saldrana), the producers made sure to keep the story interesting by making the other characters just as important too. With the other characters being involved and relevant as much as they are, it kept it interesting alongside the two main characters.

The story shared humor, love, passion, faith, culture and more. It has a mix of different languages that sets a tone that helps the flow of it. It keeps it smooth and interesting.

Ultimately, I would say that if you like that if you like romantic drama series, then this is the show for you. It gets emotional and you may need some tissues next to you while watching but it won’t disappoint.

After all, if you haven’t had the time in the day to watch “From Scratch”, then I highly recommend you do so. If this was more than one season, it would be binge watching worthy. But since it’s not I say enjoy it while you can. The characters are great and so is the storyline.
