Not Your Typical Breakfast Spot

If you are looking for one of the best breakfast, lunch, or brunch locations near West Bloomfield, then you should consider checking out Toast, located in the middle of all the hustle and bustle of downtown Birmingham.  If you love breakfast and are looking for a fun and unique setting to eat it in, treating yourself to a meal at Toast is a great way to begin your day.

Toast has three different seating areas for dining.  One area of the restaurant has a living room feel to it.  It is small with a fireplace and antiques and old photographs throughout the room.   The seating in this area is a mixture of couches, cozy chairs, and pillows, making it a very homey environment.  The main sitting area is more formal but still has a very inviting décor.  The formal sitting area includes a bar.  The third area is a seasonal patio outside.

While Toast does offer a limited selection of sandwiches and salads for lunches, they are best known for their breakfast items.  I am a fan of eggs benedict, so on my most recent visit I ordered the Nova Scotia Benny.  The wait staff is friendly and knowledgeable and helped me with this decision as well as what was the best side dish to order – I went with parmesan cheese grits.

The Nova Scotia Benny is a slight twist on the traditional eggs benedict in that it substitutes smoked salmon in place of ham.  It was a delicious meal and I ate every last bite, but it is still no match for traditional eggs benny with ham.

Like a lot of popular restaurants now-a-days, Toast does not take reservations.  So, if you plan on going during peak times, you should expect to wait for a table.  Unless you are lucky enough to beat the crowd, guests should expect to have to wait 30-45 minutes for a table.  However, the great thing about Toast’s location is that while you are waiting for a table you can visit the stores around Birmingham, or take a walk in the city park located just across the street.  The restaurant will text you when your table is ready, so you know when you need to return.

I would rate this restaurant 4.5 stars out of 5. The only reason I couldn’t rate this restaurant a 5 out of 5 stars, is because the restaurant can get chilly at times when the weather gets cold outside.  A couple times when waiting for my food to arrive I could feel a draft coming from somewhere that gave me a slight chill.  The price of the food will help you make that decision. Other than that, Toast is an amazing restaurant, and you should definitely consider showing up with friends, family, or even just by yourself next time you are in Birmingham.
