The Middle Sports Line consists of weekly updates of all Middle School sporting activities for Abbott Middle School and Orchard Lake Middle School. This week the only sport in play was Boys 7th and 8th grade Basketball. This article includes a flashback of of each middle school’s season.

The OLMS 8th grade Basketball team has been phenomenal this season as they have not yet lost a game.  The Vikings are 9-0 this season and just two more games away from a perfect season. These 8th graders are continuing the legacy set by the current WBHS Freshmen as they left OLMS with a 12-0 record. Currently, OLMS is is on a school 21 game win streak overall.

The team began the season with a 45-24 victory over Bloomfield Hills’ East Hills Middle School. Demetrius Champion and Tre Mosley lead the team to victory with 8 points apiece. Next, was Birmingham’s Derby Middle School. Damon Brooks led all scorers with 12 points to lead his powerful team to a  44-24 win. The Vikings then hit the road to match up with a talented Country Day team, but the result was the same. OLMS took the victory with a final score of 49-33, led by Jake Kulman with 15 points. OLMS continued their streak to Birmingham’s Berkshire Middle School, 41-24. Outstanding performances were seen from Tre Mosley and Damon Brooks as each concluded with 9. On Tuesday, December 4, the Vikings took on their sister school and biggest rival, Abbott Middle School. OLMS beat their competition with a final score of 54-26. Jevan Swanigan scored a season high 16 points. After a blowout win against Abbott, the Vikings played their closest game of the season, thus far, against Bloomfield Hills Middle School. Demetrius Champion led all scorers with 10 points and led the team to a 34-25 victory. The Vikings then put up a show for their home crowd as the obliterated Country Day, 44-16. Damon Brooks lead the team with a solid 12 points. They then came across East Hills for the second time this season and took the victory with a final score of 52-21. The most recent game took place on Thursday, January 8 against Berkshire Middle School. The Vikings won the game by a landslide for the second time this season, 43-19.

The OLMS 7th grade Basketball team has had a truly dominant season thus far. The Vikings are an outstanding 8-1 against opponents and look to finish off strong in their next two games.  These 7th graders got off to a hot start in their first three games against East Hills Middle School (score: 37-12), Derby Middle School (score: 38-16), and Country Day (score: 42-12). All three victories were by 20 points or more. The Vikings then went on to suffer a tough loss and the only loss so far this season against Berkshire Middle School, with a final of 32-28. OLMS immediately bounced back to go on a 4 game win streak, one of which included West Bloomfield rival, Abbott Middle School. The Vikings dominated the game in every aspect and won the game by 22, with a final score of 40-18. The next three victories included Bloomfield Hills Middle School (score: 32-20), Country Day (score 46-10), and East Hills Middle School (score: 32-18). The most recent game took place on Thursday, January 8 as the Vikings battled in an overtime thriller against Berkshire Middle School. Center, Stanley Abulu lead the team to victory as he made several outstanding plays and made clutch free throws to put the game out of reach. The final score was 33-26, as OLMS dominated in OT.

This winter the Abbott Middle School Boys Basketball teams sprung into action. The 8th grade Boys Basketball team remains a sensational 9-1 with two games remaining, while the 7th grade team is 4-6.

On Wednesday January 7th, The  Abbott Boys 8th grade defeated West Hills 38-9. With an overall record of 9-1 they have two games remaining.

The Abbott Boys 7th grade lost to West Hills 32-21. The 7th grade record is 4-6 with two games left.
