The WBHS Girls Varsity Basketball team competed in an action packed round one match in the Class A Girls Basketball Tournament on Monday. The Lakers matched up on the road against rival Walled Lake Western (WLN). Despite the Laker’s near crunch time come back, WBHS fell to the Knights, 42-34. The Knights surged ahead in the second quarter with a 12-4 run to finish the half at 24-14. After the half, the Lakers bursted out of the locker room with urgency and took control of the third to enter the fourth with just a 4 point, 36-32, deficit. In the fourth, WLN was too much for the Lakers and the Knights put the icing on the cake to finish with the victory. WBHS’ Taylor Pierce (junior) led her team with 11 points and 7 rebounds. Unfortunately, WBHS did not qualify for any more tournament action with their 8-13 record. The Lakers played with passion and were extremely exciting to watch all season. The WBHS Girls Basketball team is proud to graduate 6 seniors and looks to improve next season.

 
WBHS Varsity Hockey was unable to get the win against Walled Lake Northern High School (WLN). WLN took advantage of the first period scoring a whopping three goals. WB was on the down side of that period and failed to score. The second period was looking better for the Lakers as they scored two goals, scored by Andre Kilpela (junior) and Drew Warnecke (junior). The Lakers were able to hold WLN to only one goal that period. Going into the third it was a close game with a score of 4-2, the Lakers trailed by 2. Despite WB’s effort, WLN scored two more goals near the end of the third period to seal the deal with a final score of 6-2. The Lakers finished the season with a final record of 15-9-2, a strong season for the Varsity boys.

The Varsity Boys Basketball team finished the season with two significant victories over Birmingham’s Seaholm and Oxford High Schools. The Lakers first took to the road against Seaholm. WBHS dominated throughout the entirety of the match as they outscored their competition in every quarter. The Lakers concluded with a 32 point, 71-39, victory. Trishton Jackson (junior) led the team with 23 points. The next day, on Friday the Lakers took on Oxford and once again were in command in each quarter to finish with the 87-66 victory. Jackson dominated the game and concluded with an outstanding 32 points. Just behind him Zach Allread (senior) finished with 20. The Varsity team looks to take the court on Wednesday, March 11 in the playoffs. The WBHS Boys Freshman Basketball team also competed against Seaholm and Oxford. The freshman team was in near striking distance of Seaholm in the late minutes of the game, but were unable to pull through as Seaholm sealed the game with a 48-40 victory. The Lakers continued to take on Oxford and ended the season with a home victory, 42-31.

 
The WBHS Wrestling team compete for a long three days at states and made the school very proud. Justin Hollins (senior) and Deshawn Cole (senior) were eliminated early, and finished with a record of 1-2. Hollins and Cole did not place despite very hard fought matches and a dominant season. Matt Gudenau (senior) was able to take an outstanding 4th place in States. Gudenau suffered a loss in the semifinals due to a very controversial call. No matter the outcome, WBHS is proud of these three wrestlers for making the journey to States, and for all the time and work they put into this season.
