The Fierce truth of Competitive Cheer

Madison Ruiz

At a typical cheer leading competition, teams perform a two and a half minute routine with music that includes stunts, jumps and tumbling. The West Bloomfield High Schools Competitive Cheerleading team has competed two times since tryouts which were held on November 9th and 10th. The WBHS Competitive Cheer team competed against 12 D-1 teams on December 12th and finished in 4th place. The first league meet of the season was held on Wednesday, January 6th. The WB Varsity team took 1st place with a total score of 670.64 points!

“My favorite aspect of cheer is doing jumps, tumbling, and cheering on our other sports teams. I’ve been cheering since middle school and my favorite part of competition is when we won the league championship, and I hope I do it again this year.” Bianca Hoban (Senior)

“I’ve been doing cheer since 10th grade. I enjoy cheerleading because I like to support the basketball team and when I cheer them on it cheers me up. My favorite thing about competitions is walking into the gym with confidence knowing I am going to put all the hard work I’ve worked on during practices on the floor to show the judges.”- Julia Kassel (Senior)

The WB Varsity team is hosting their second league meet in the West Bloomfield High school gym on Wednesday, January 27th at 6:30 Pm and would love Lakers to come and show their support.
