Students from West Bloomfield High School competed at the Chemistry Olympiad regional competition at the University of Michigan- Dearborn on March 23, 2017. The Chemistry Olympiad competition is a 70 question test, with an additional tie breaker. Over 150 students competed in this local test, and the top 12 students received a cash prize of $150. The very top students are given the opportunity to compete at the National Exam, in April. Over 1,000 students are nominated to take the National Exam, and the students who score in the top 20 in the nation are invited to attend a study camp in the summer to compete for a chance to be on the U.S.A team. The 2017 International Chemistry Olympiad competition is from July 6-15th, in Nakhon Pathom, Thailand.

Chemistry students Harshini Murali, Jensen Hwa, Jennifer Haely, Mariam Tariq, Fatema Saifuddin, Roopa Gorur, Avani Samandur, Shannon Osborne, Nick Vinokurov, Pratham Dhanjal, Devyn Barnette, and Dylan Edelman competed at the competition.
