This past weekend on September 6th, the West Bloomfield High School (WBHS) tennis team served their way into the spotlight, as they kicked off their season with a huge tournament at Novi High School, which included, Novi High School, Cranbrook, and Grosse Pointe High School. Unfortunately, the WBHS tennis team suffered a disappointing loss overall in the tournament.

Despite the loss, the tennis team played with confidence and maintained a consistent composure. While questioning some of the members of the team as to how they felt about being a part of the Varsity team, they responded with excitement to be back out on the courts. When asked about how they performed, Kevin Chen and Justin Vassallo, both sophomores at West Bloomfield HIgh School, said, “We played very well and with confidence.” Those two players were victorious in the first set, clinching the 6-3 win.

Rishabh Parekh, the only freshman on the Varsity team, was ready for the challenge. Parekh stated, “It’s a really big honor to be part of the varsity team especially, since it’s so competitive and the upperclassmen are very nice. It’s great to be part of such a supportive team.” Parekh played in three sets ,winning one out of three. The scores of the matches were 6-4, 3-6, and 3-6. When asked about his performance, Parekh said, “I’m playing good right now, some disappointing losses, just need to pick up my game.”

Another member of the Varsity tennis team, Eli Ravid, is currently a senior at WBHS. Ravid takes time to prepare himself before games physically and mentally. “Physically I hydrate and eat healthy foods prior to the match. Mentally, I tell myself, ‘I’m going to win.’ I enter with a positive attitude,” says Ravid.

An honorable mention goes to Josh Janklovetiz and Eli Ravid, both seniors. These two players fought and persevered with wins for both. They should be very proud of their efforts and accomplishments.
