Jewish Club Kicks Off the Year

Jenna Anderson

On Tuesday, October 9th, the Jewish Club held their first meeting of the school year in Mr. Jakeway’s room, the club sponsor with Ms. Strobridge. Co-presidents, Lindsay Schwartz and Nicole Ruza, ran the sukkot themed meeting. Members of the club played a Kahoot about the holiday and built sukkahs with graham crackers, pretzels, and frosting. All members agreed that it was a great way to kick off the year.

Schwartz and Ruza started this club at WB last year with the help of Yarden Blumstein. Blumstein is the teen director at Friendship Circle and a leader of the UMatter program. Through these activities, Blumstein is involved in the high schools in the area. Ruza said, “Yarden reached out to us and said that we should start a Jewish Club at West Bloomfield. It was started before and it really didn’t take off so we wanted to start it again.”

The executive board has a lot of fun plans for the year. Ruza said they intend to do “fun interactive activities” including food incorporation and field trips. Last year, the club went to the Fleischman Residence to volunteer after school once. They plan to do this activity again.

Meetings are once a month. You do not have to be Jewish to join. Follow the Jewish Club on twitter @WBHSJewishClub to stay posted about meetings, activities, and more!!
